Advanced Nanostructures

The growing interest in nanomaterials is due to their unique physical properties, which make their use as devices with extended functionalities in many technology areas (e.g. nanoelectronics, data storage, etc.) very promising. In the first part of the lecture, the electronic properties of the solid state materials are discussed, particularly of low-dimensional structures. In the further course of the lecture we will discuss the novel preparation methods for nanostructures, such as chemical vapor deposition, molecular beam epitaxy and lithography techniques. We then focus on advanced characterization at the nanoscale, mainly based on scanning probe methods and synchrotron-based techniques. Finally, we will disciss design and fabrication of logical elements and storage units.

Exercises for the lecture: The material of the lecture is further deepened in the accompanying exercise. This includes exemplary exercises and short presentations.
